What this document is

An invoice is a demand for payment. It says what was supplied, what it costs, and when the money is due. Once you issue one, it is a record both you and your customer are expected to be able to produce later.

This template is deliberately unstyled. There is no logo block to delete, no sample company to overwrite, and nothing that has to be removed before you can send it to a real customer.

When to use it

  • After you have supplied the goods or done the work, or at the point your contract says you can bill.
  • When a customer asks for an invoice before they can raise a payment — corporate and government buyers usually cannot pay without one.
  • For each stage of a job billed in stages, with a distinct invoice number each time.

What it has to carry

  • Your registered business name as it appears at the CAC, plus address, phone and email.
  • Your RC number and TIN.
  • The customer’s name, address and, where they ask for it, their TIN.
  • A unique invoice number, the issue date and a due date that is an actual date.
  • Line items with description, quantity and unit price.
  • VAT at 7.5%, added on top of the discounted subtotal. Nigerian VAT is exclusive; it is never carved out of a price you have already quoted.
  • Bank details: bank, account name, account number.
  • A withholding tax note, so a customer who has to deduct WHT knows to issue you the credit note.

Or fill it in the browser

The free invoice generator does the arithmetic for you — VAT at 7.5% on the discounted subtotal — and hands you a PDF without an account. Billify, the app that keeps the record afterwards, is on iPhone and iPad only; there is no Android app. The free plan covers 10 invoices a month for up to 5 clients.
