VAT calculator for Nigeria

Add 7.5% VAT to a price, or take it out of an amount that already includes it. The working is printed under the result so you can check it. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Net (before VAT)
₦100,000.00
VAT at 7.5%
₦7,500.00
Total (with VAT)
₦107,500.00

₦100,000.00 × 0.075 = ₦7,500.00 VAT; ₦100,000.00 + ₦7,500.00 = ₦107,500.00

What the sum assumes

The rate is 7.5%
Nigerian VAT rose from 5% to 7.5% on 1 February 2020 and has not moved since. The calculator uses 7.5%; if the rate changes, the guide it is built from changes first.
VAT is added, never carved out
If you quote ₦100,000 and charge VAT, the customer owes ₦107,500. The ₦100,000 is yours. Treating the ₦100,000 as already containing VAT hands ₦6,976.74 of your own fee to the tax.
Discounts come first
VAT is charged on what the customer actually pays for the goods or service, so a discount comes off before VAT is worked out — never after.
Only charge it if you are registered
A business that is not registered for VAT does not add it. Charging VAT you cannot remit is a bigger problem than not charging it.
